New Premises
Our new premises and equipment room is rapdily taking shape.
From outside, it's here, in TeRenCo Finance House (formerly Compaq
House, formerly Digital House), on the corner of Victoria St and Bond
St, on level 1, directly above the Trade Aid shop.
Here we see the computer room space as we found it back in May. Tidy,
but very, very empty.
By early August, the fitout is well underway.
Here is our new computer room fire wall. The pink Fyreline GIB and
insulation probably won't do much to stop any cyber-nasties, but should
keep an actual fire at bay for over an hour.
Late August, solid timber cabinet bases are firmly anchored to the new
anti-static computer room floor, and the first cabinets attached to them
with some fairly serious screws. After all, we don't them falling over.
Just to be sure, we also bracketed the cabinets to the wall. Overhead
steel cable trays are ready to carry power and data to the cabinets.
Looking down the other end of the cabinet row. Again, we used really
big brackets on the end of the row to stop them falling over.
Early September, the cable tray is carrying the power and data cables.
That's over a kilometer of blue cable. Along with the power cables,
earth straps and so-forth there is a heck of a lot of copper in and
around this room.
Speaking of power, the switchboards are going in. The mains
board is to the left, with the heavy feed cable (three phase, 63 amps
per phase), with the UPS bypass panel and protected sub-board to the
right. Apparently, power to the whole building will need to be shut down
to get that big power hose connected.
Mid September, and the rest of the fitout is nearly finished, The last big item
is the kitchenette.
Here we can see down the corridor through the "fish bowl" office at the
end, out to Victoria St. The blue drop sheets will be up Real Soon Now, and
then we can start moving in.
Back in the computer room, the switchboards are all tidied up ready to
take the new 15 kVA UPS.
And here is the beast:
Late September, things are ready to move. Furniture is shipped over.
Some equipment ready to go:
The old computer room, already reduced somewhat just before the big move:
And from the front:
And after minimal disruption, servers are relocated to the new computer
room. Now things are much less cluttered and very much tidier.
