Spiro Harvey
Spiro has been embedded in technology for the last quarter century. He
grew up on Commodore, and later Acorn computers, and reluctantly
migrated to PCs when it was discovered that the best BBS software ran on
DOS.
In 1993, Spiro found Linux, then a very new Operating System that
brought the fun back into computing. He hasn't looked back since. A few
glances sideways, perhaps, but never back.
In 1998, Spiro founded a Linux user group in Wellington, that became
known as LAW (the Linux Advocates of Wellington), and sadly is not still
running.
While his career had begun in hardware, by the late '90s, Spiro was
moving into the ISP world having worked for Xtra, IHUG, and Globe.Net.In
1999, he built a complete Tier 3 ISP from scratch. All servers were
running Linux.
Moving away from the ISP world, Spiro worked at NEC for the next eight
years supporting Solaris. He is a Certified Solaris System
Administrator, but has moved back into a role closer to his roots.
In 2008, Spiro began at Knossos Networks as Systems Administrator of a
BSD and Linux network. He expects to be there long enough to become a
piece of furniture. Probably a bean bag.
